- Complete the coursework (Comm 310-Comm 399; 33 units) before taking the dissertation course (Comm 400-12 units)
Dissertation (Comm 400)
- Comm 400 requires the completion of the 33-unit coursework.
- First time enrollees of Comm 400 need to register for the 12-unit course.
- After that semester, no need to enroll again in Comm 400 in the subsequent semesters. Instead, enroll in Residency in the next semesters until your dissertation is defended.
- Failure to enroll in Residency in the current semester would require you to apply for readmission in the semester you would actively come back and continue your dissertation process.
- There are two required presentation/defense in Comm 400: Proposal presentation and Final Dissertation Defense.
- PROPOSAL PRESENTATION
- Make sure that you have already constituted your advisory committee.
- This is done via the AdCom site: https://dcomm.upou.edu.ph/
- The constitution of your committee should be done in your 5th semester, to allow you to familiarize yourself with the DComm faculty and their specializations.
- This system is limited on quota-basis, thus, if your preferred adviser has reached his number of advisees quota, you will not be able to choose them anymore. They can, however, be your panel member.
- The AdCom site states the specialization of each adviser to help you choose. Upon choosing, this is permanent until your dissertation is completed.
- Start your dissertation process by communicating with your adviser and drafting your proposal. You may ask your adviser on what contents you need to include in the proposal, but typically, the draft includes the first 3 chapters of your dissertation (Before the Data-gathering chapter).
- Upon the approval of your adviser, you may request to schedule your proposal presentation. Ask your committee if they are available on your preferred date. Cc dcommprogramsupport@upou.edu.ph
- Upon their confirmation, inform dcommprogramsupport@upou.edu.ph
- Fill out https://calendly.com/dcomm to schedule your presentation via zoom.
- Submit your powerpoint presentation and proposal draft to your committee and cc dcommprogramsupport@upou.edu.ph; If any changes should be done in your draft, just inform us before the scheduled presentation.
- After the proposal presentation, you are now ready for the data-gathering process, and manuscript writing. Update your adviser with the progress.
- For easy tracking you may use this matrix to allow the panel to easily see the progress you made in your dissertation manuscript.
- Upon completion of the manuscript, check the format here: https://bit.ly/DissertationTemplate
- Final Dissertation Defense
- Make sure that you are enrolled in the semester.
- Submit your manuscript draft to your committee and cc dcommprogramsupport@upou.edu.ph
- Upon your adviser’s approval, you can now schedule your final dissertation defense.
- Ask your committee if they are available on your preferred date. Cc dcommprogramsupport@upou.edu.ph
- Upon their confirmation, inform dcommprogramsupport@upou.edu.ph
- Fill out https://calendly.com/dcomm to schedule your defense via zoom.
- Submit your PowerPoint presentation and manuscript to your committee and cc dcommprogramsupport@upou.edu.ph; If any changes should be done in your draft, just inform us before the scheduled defense.
